Flood protection at Döbeln

In Döbeln, there were extreme floods in 2002 and 2013, demonstrating the necessity for the city to build flood protection walls. To give these an appealing appearance, the authorities decided to color them and give them the surface texture of a natural stone wall.

Red concrete with masonry texture

The contracting companies opted to use the NOEplast textured formliners. It was used to clad the sheet pile wall with an in-situ concrete wall made of red-colored concrete (color: Rochlitz granite), resembling the surface texture of a natural stone wall. The NOEplast textured formliner named Murus Romanus has the exact desired pattern and additionally offers the advantage of being able to interlock irregularly. This allows it to seamlessly expand both horizontally and vertically.

textured formliners application

To achieve good results when using textured formliners, it is important to fix them securely to the formwork to prevent them from slipping. To make the work as easy as possible for its customers, NOE Formwork Technology offers a very special service: as the only manufacturer, they fix the formliner to the formwork upon request in the factory and deliver it ready for immediate use. This was also utilized by the companies on the construction sites in Döbeln. Initially, they had the formliner mounted on a circular formwork and poured the corresponding sections with it, then they sent the "package" back to NOE Formwork Technology. They removed the NOEplast from the circular formwork and mounted it on the formwork that was subsequently used – the NOE®ratio. This way, the textured formliner was used between 10 and 38 times.

Since the flood protection project in Döbeln was a larger construction project that had to be partly realized under the construction conditions of a city center, its completion took some time. But now, citizens can breathe a sigh of relief because they are safely protected from further floods.
