KTM builds a new logistics centre

KTM, one of the leading manufacturers of motorcycles for on- and off-road use, is building a new logistics center with a planned area of 30,000 m² in Munderfing (Austria). It comprises a warehouse with several truck loading ramps, an office wing, staff parking, and covered bicycle parking spaces. The project was designed by Hofbauer Liebmann Architekten, an architectural practice in Wels, Austria, which has designed and completed several other buildings for KTM. Many of these share a common feature – a special material – concrete.

In 2020, the firm received the GVTB Concrete Prize in the category "High-Rise Construction" for another KTM building, specifically for the "House of Brands". This demonstrates that the designers are fully aware of the advantages offered by concrete as a building material and skillfully utilize them. They have the ability to significantly influence the appearance of the finished concrete component simply by choosing the formwork material. This was precisely what they did with the facade of the KTM Logistics Center II. NOE offers over 130 standard patterns, which can replicate surfaces such as wood or plaster. For the KTM project, the designers opted for the structure named Granite 4. This gives the concrete the tactile feel of real natural stone.

The facade panels were produced by Franz Oberndorfer GmbH from Gunskirchen. Thanks to their professionalism, the precast plant was able to process a total of 5,830 m³ of concrete and 830 tonnes of construction steel in just 28 weeks. In addition to normal rectangular elements, they also produced elements cut at an angle or in U- or L-shapes.

Although the facade covers an area of 7,200 m², the precast plant's employees only needed 23 molds with a total surface area of 240 m². This is possible because NOEplast molds can be reused up to 100 times. One of the special services provided by the mold manufacturer is that they can pre-attach the molds to formwork elements or corresponding carrier plates in the factory upon request. This additional service greatly simplifies the application for the processor and was also commissioned by Franz Oberndorfer GmbH.
